About Pebble & getting started

What is Pebble?

A community-first investing platform being built in Pakistan. When we launch, you'll be able to buy and hold real, physically backed gold, starting from almost nothing, and sell it back to cash anytime. Right now we're building it in the open.

When does Pebble launch?

We're building right now. Join the waitlist and you'll be first to know, with updates the whole way there.

Is there any cost to join the waitlist?

No. The waitlist is open to everyone at no cost, and you'll get our budgeting template too. No spam, just updates as Pebble takes shape.

What happens when I join the waitlist?

Your budgeting template lands in your inbox, and we'll send you updates as Pebble takes shape. That's it.

What do I need to open an account?

Just your CNIC, your bank details, and a few basic personal details, all done inside the app. It's the standard identity check any investment account requires. No branch visit, no paperwork.

What's the smallest amount I can start with?

0.1 grams of gold, a genuinely small first step. Begin with almost nothing, see how it feels, and add more only when you're ready. There's no pressure to start big.

Your gold: what it is and where it's kept

Is my gold actually real, and where is it kept?

Yes, it's real, physically backed gold, not just a number in an app. When you buy, you're buying PMEX milli tola gold contracts, backed by actual physical gold held in a secure, PMEX-approved vault at the exchange. Your holdings are shown to you in grams and tola, and you can cross-check the underlying contract with PMEX. What you hold is real, physically backed gold, kept in the exchange's vault rather than by us.

What is the purity of the gold?

The gold is 999.0 fineness, which is 24 karat (99.9% pure). It's cast in bars from exchange-approved refineries that meet PMEX's "Good Delivery" standard. These specifications are taken from PMEX's official Milli Tola Gold Futures Contract, and you can find more on the PMEX website (www.pmex.com.pk).

Is this Shariah compliant?

Here's how it works, so you can look at it clearly: you're buying physically backed gold through PMEX gold contracts, exchange-traded, with each contract settling at T+2 (two working days), and the gold held in PMEX-approved vaults. We don't claim any certification of our own. We'll explain the full structure in a blog, so you can look at it and decide for yourself.

Where does my money sit?

Always in the exchange wallet at PMEX, never with us. Custody and money movement sit with PMEX, the exchange, not with Pebble. When you sell, the cash sits in your exchange wallet, and you withdraw it to your bank from there.

What if Pebble shuts down?

Your holding sits at the exchange, not on Pebble's books, so it isn't ours to lose. Custody and money movement sit with PMEX. That's the whole reason we're building on the exchange.

Buying, selling & withdrawing

Can I invest a small amount every month?

Yes, that's exactly how Pebble is built. You can set up small, regular purchases of real gold each month. We encourage regular, consistent investing, even in small amounts: putting a little aside every month is the habit that matters, more than the size of any single buy. And if a month is tight, you can skip it: the habit survives a skip, and you're never locked in.

How fast can I turn my gold back into cash?

You can sell your gold any time the market is open, and the cash lands in your exchange wallet at PMEX. From there you withdraw it to your bank, which usually takes 1 to 2 working days (weekends not included).

When can I buy or sell?

Whenever the gold market is open at the exchange.

Why gold

Why gold and not stocks or a savings account?

Gold is a simple, familiar store of value, and you can start tiny. Over long periods it has broadly held its worth against inflation, so it can help protect the value of your savings while cash slowly loses ground. It's not better than everything, and it earns no income, but for a first step it's simple, and starting builds the habit of investing, which matters more than any single buy. Gold's price moves daily and can go down; it's subject to market risk, and its record is about long periods, not months.

Can gold lose value?

Yes. Gold prices move both ways and can fall for months or even years at a time. It's a long-term store of value, subject to market risk, not a guaranteed or quick win. Only commit money you can leave invested for a while, not money you'll need next week.

Hasn't gold already had its run? Am I too late?

A fair thing to ask. Don't buy gold expecting the last decade to repeat: much of that came from the rupee falling plus a rare global surge, and no one can promise that again. But timing was never the point. Gold isn't about catching a rally, it's about not leaving your savings exposed while inflation works in the background. Protection doesn't have a deadline. (Any historical figures we show carry their source and date, and the reminder that what happened before does not promise what happens next.)

Why not just buy physical gold (jewellery or coins)?

You can, and holding gold in your hand has a comfort nothing digital quite replaces. The trade-offs are the making charges you lose the moment you buy, the worry of storing it safely, and the purity you take on trust. And you can't sell a corner of a bangle when you need a little cash. Digital, physically backed gold skips the making charges and the locker, lets you start small, and sells in seconds. Same metal, less friction. If holding it in your hand matters more than that, physical is a perfectly reasonable choice.

Pebble vs a gold fund

How is Pebble different from a gold fund like Meezan?

Meezan Gold Fund sources its physical gold from PMEX, the same custody vaults Pebble uses, so at the foundation both rest on the same gold. The difference is the wrapper around it. With Pebble you buy PMEX milli tola gold contracts, so your holding is gold held for you in your account. With the fund you buy units of a managed mutual fund that holds the gold; your holding is a NAV (net asset value) per unit, not grams of gold. More on this on our blog.

Costs

What does it cost me to buy?

We haven't finalised the fee structure yet, so we won't quote a number we might change. When it's set, we'll spell out every charge plainly, before you ever pay it. No surprises, no fine print.

How does Pebble make money?

We'll take a small commission when you buy and sell gold. The numbers aren't finalised yet, but we'll show you the cost clearly before you confirm anything. _Nothing here is investment advice. Pebble is under development and launches only after regulatory approval._
