An AMC (Asset Management Company) is a licensed firm that creates and manages mutual funds — pooling investors' money and investing it according to each fund's objective.

When you invest in a mutual fund, an AMC's professional managers do the buying and selling for you. In Pakistan, AMCs are regulated by the SECP. You can invest directly with an AMC or through a distributor.

In Pakistan: examples include Al Meezan, HBL, and NBP, among others.

Example: you buy units of an AMC's equity fund, and the AMC spreads your money across many stocks on your behalf.

Don't confuse it with: a stockbroker, which executes individual share trades for you.
