IRIS is the Federal Board of Revenue's (FBR) official online portal, at iris.fbr.gov.pk. It is the only official place to register as a taxpayer, file your income tax return, and check your status.
You register on IRIS once using your CNIC, a mobile number in your own name, and an email — both receive a one-time code to verify you. After that, you log in every filing season to submit your return. For an individual, your login ID is your CNIC, which is also your NTN.
In Pakistan: IRIS is run by FBR and is free to use. Avoid any other website claiming to "file your taxes" — returns are only valid through IRIS.
Example: to file, you log in to IRIS and go to Declaration → Income Tax Return, then complete the income and wealth sections.
Don't confuse it with: your NTN. IRIS is the portal (the website); your NTN is your identity (your number) that you use to log in.
