Tola is the traditional unit for weighing gold (and silver) in Pakistan, equal to 11.664 grams. When you hear a gold price quoted "per tola," this is the unit being used.

Gold in Pakistan is almost always priced per tola rather than per gram or per ounce. Because a single tola of pure gold is expensive — over Rs 4 lakh in 2026 — it's split into 1,000 tiny pieces called milli tola, so people can buy gold in small amounts.

In Pakistan: jewellers, the daily gold rate in the news, and the PMEX exchange all quote gold per tola.

Example (PKR): at Rs 435,000 per tola, half a tola of gold costs about Rs 217,500.

Don't confuse it with: milli tola — one-thousandth of a tola.
